Social Media

Social media allows MCC to communicate and share information with our students and the larger community. Following best practice helps us build a relationship with our audience and ensure our messages are concise, friendly, and helpful.

So you want to create a Social Media Account...

Contact MACS before creating a social media account. Prior to meeting with us, we recommend answering the following questions:

  • What are your communication goals?
  • What communication needs aren’t currently addressed by your website, newsletter, or other properties?
  • Who is your audience and what do they need?
  • Which social platform does your target audience use? (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube for prospective/current students; LinkedIn for alumni, partners, and professional programs; Facebook for parents and the local community.)
  • Does your office have the resources to maintain a consistent social presence? Is there someone who can write, create, and curate content on a regular basis, respond to questions in a timely manner, etc.?
  • Do you have a plan for video content? (Because algorithms favor short-form vertical video—like Reels—departments should consider their ability to film and edit brief, engaging video clips.)

Representing MCC on Social Media

MCC-related social media accounts must be requested/approved by the Office of Marketing and Creative Services. If MACS approves the request for a social media account, MACS will provide an official profile image.

Social Media Tips

  • Write with a strong hook: Keep your primary call-to-action or most important message in the first 1 to 2 lines before the text gets truncated (the 'See More' button). Break up longer posts with short paragraphs and bullet points to make them easy to skim on mobile.
  • Prioritize mobile aspect ratios: Design visual assets in square (1:1) or vertical (4:5) formats for standard feed posts, and vertical (9:16) for Stories and Reels. This ensures your graphics occupy the maximum amount of screen space on mobile devices.
