Email Signature Dos and Don’ts
- Do use a single color
Choose a default black or dark gray color for your email text. Other colors can make it difficult for recipients to read.
- Do use a simple font and appropriate point size
Use classic, universal fonts such as Calibri or Helvetica. Other fonts may not always show up correctly for recipients. The font point size should be kept between 12 and 14 to ensure proper readability on mobile devices.
- Don’t include inspirational quotes
This can make the content of your emails harder to read and can also seem unprofessional.
- Don’t add additional images or resize the MCC logo
This can distort the logo and unnecessarily increase the file size of your emails—especially on longer email chains.
- Don’t add personal links
This practice can make the bottom of your emails appear cluttered and harder to read.
Email signatures should remain professional and not detract from your message. On rare occasion, MCC may ask employees to add a specific link(s) to email signatures to promote certain initiatives. These are the only exceptions to the rule.
