Learn More About Putin's War at MCC Speaker Series

Dive deeper into the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict at McHenry County College’s latest Experts and Insights speaker series Thursday, November 16 at 6 p.m. in the College’s Luecht Auditorium. “Putin’s War” will be presented by political science instructor Ribhi Salhi, Ph.D.

“This lecture is crucial for gaining a global perspective and understanding ongoing international conflicts,” said Salhi. “It will help our community explore how the world functions beyond our borders and educate us about strategic thinking in world politics.”

The session will explain Russia’s ambitions, Moscow’s fears of Western domination, and the idea of proxy war. It will also discuss expected scenarios, where the United States stands, and whether China has interest in modeling the same war against Taiwan.

Ribhi Salhi has taught at MCC since 2008, including classes in Comparative Government, International Relations, U.S. Foreign Policy, International Terrorism, and U.S. Government. He received his Ph.D. in Public Policies and Administration from Walden University, his M.A. in Political Science from Northern Illinois University, and an M.A. in International Relations from Roosevelt University. He is a three-time recipient of Outstanding Faculty of the Year awards and a three-time nominee for the statewide Illinois Community College Trustees Association's Outstanding Adjunct Faculty award. (2013, 2017, 2022).

The session is free and open to the public. Registration is requested but walk-ins are welcome.

The next Experts and Insights session will be “A History of Blues Culture” on January 18, 2024 at 6 p.m.
