Explore the Realities of OCD at Experts and Insights Series

Many people are affected by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)—but it is often a misunderstood diagnosis. Dive deeper into what OCD looks like in real life and discuss treatment options for this common disorder in McHenry County College’s latest Experts and Insights educational speaker series “When OCD Hits Home” Thursday, September 21 at 6 p.m. The session, held in the College’s Luecht Auditorium, will be presented by Psychology instructor Robin Deak.

“OCD includes an array of symptoms that aren’t all about being clean and organized,” said Deak. “My goal with this session is to support our community by sharing the realities of OCD and encouraging hope by sharing my own family’s experience with OCD.”

Robin has taught psychology at MCC for 20 years. Before teaching, she worked for 13 years in social services with various diverse populations. Robin has an associate degree from Harper College, a bachelor’s in psychology from Illinois State University, and a master’s in clinical psychology from Roosevelt University. She was named MCC's Adjunct Faculty of the Year in 2011, and the MCC Full-Time Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) Faculty of the Year in 2021.

The session is free and open to the public. Registration is requested but walk-ins are welcome.

The next Experts and Insights session will be “Jekyll and Hyde Revisited” on October 19 at 6 p.m.

Interested participants can register and learn more at the Experts and Insights webpage. If you need an accommodation or a sign language interpreter, please contact MCC’s Access and Disability Services department at (815) 455-8766 or disabilityservices@mchenry.edu

The Experts and Insights series originally started in 2019 as an opportunity for the community to experience the high quality of education and expertise provided by MCC’s faculty as they present topics in their fields of study.
