MCC's art department fosters a vibrant community of student artists. Our studio space, instruction, and course offerings are diverse and up-to-date, cultivating ingenuity and creativity.
Our students transfer to a wide range of public and private universities after completing an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) Degree. Foundation courses transfer easily, and we offer specific transferability plans with many state and private universities. The Art AFA program requires more art courses while the Art AA program requires more general education courses. Also, the AA degree allows students to complete many courses toward a Bachelor of Arts degree while the AFA degree prepares students for a Bachelor in Fine Arts.
In MCC’s art programs, you can choose from art appreciation and art history classes, ceramics, drawing and life drawing, jewelry, painting, darkroom photography and digital photography, sculpture, and two- and three-dimensional design. You’ll explore a variety of artistic media throughout your studies and build strong work to compile a professional portfolio ready to share with future employers. You’ll also develop the critical skills of creative problem-solving, originality, production, and processing, as well as practical skills like organization and workflow.
Degrees in the fine arts can lead to a variety of careers including art-making, exhibit design and installation, art education, art therapy, and consulting in a variety of contexts—from newsrooms to film sets.
