Administrative Office Technologies AAS

MCC’s Administrative Office Technologies AAS program provides the career training you need to become an administrative assistant, office manager, administrative manager, and many other office professional roles. The curriculum focuses on the latest application software and technologies used, virtual technologies, office procedures, keyboarding, and communication skills. Upon completion of the program, you will have the technological, administrative, and interpersonal skills—as well as the initiative, confidence, and decision-making ability—to be an effective member of an office team.

Upon completion of advanced-level software courses, you are eligible to sit for one or more of the Microsoft Office Specialist™ (MOS) exams. Having these certifications can open doors to advancement and new workplace opportunities.

MCC’s program allows you to build on your skills with stackable certificates in Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Microsoft Skills, Virtual Office Assistant, Medical Administration, Desktop Publishing, or Administrative Office Technologies that you can earn as you work toward your AAS degree.

Proficiency Exam Information

If you believe you are proficient in the knowledge and skills taught in a particular AOT course, the AOT Department offers several proficiency exams, similar to a final exam, that may be completed to demonstrate your knowledge and skill to receive course credit. What have graduates gone on to do?

Students retooled or refined their skills towards a promotion or advancing or changing careers. Some students have secured a part-time or “stepping-stone” position after certificate completion while working towards the degree. Other students have completed the degree to obtain their Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certifications to improve or enhance their skills and knowledge towards excelling in their careers.

    The mission of McHenry County College’s Administrative Office Technologies program is to develop students who are skilled in current software, technology, keyboarding, document formatting, communication, and interpersonal skills. MCC students shall be distinguishable by their critical thinking, effective communication, professionalism, and technical competency. Students will use current and contemporary practices to demonstrate mastery of the Program Learning Outcomes.

Semesters to complete assumes students are taking a full-time credit load of 12 credits per semester (the minimum required for federal financial aid).

Proportion of students completing in normal time is the percentage of completers who earned the credential within the specified time of their first enrollment at the College.

Students attending part-time or changing their program of study are two common reasons why they may not complete in "normal" time.
