The Friends of McHenry County College (MCC) Foundation is proud to announce that Taylor Swanson has been named the 2026 recipient of the Ervin J. LeCoque University Center Scholarship—an award that provides full tuition up to $28,000 for an MCC graduate to complete their bachelor’s degree through the University Center at MCC in Woodstock.
Swanson, a first-generation college student, will attend Southern Illinois University – Carbondale through the University Center to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She currently serves as president of MCC’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society chapter and was named a PTK Distinguished International Scholar in March 2026. She will also serve as PTK regional president for the 2026–27 academic year, representing MCC at the regional level.
Swanson plans to pursue a career in government auditing and forensic accounting and hopes to use her expertise to promote transparency, accountability, and ethical stewardship of public resources.
“MCC has become a home away from home for me,” said Swanson. “The encouragement and support I have received have helped me grow not only as a student, but also as a leader. I have developed skills in communication, teamwork, and service that will continue to benefit me throughout my academic and professional career. I am grateful for the impact MCC has had on my life and for the opportunity to continue my education through the University Center.”
Swanson was notified of the scholarship award during a small gathering at MCC attended by staff and Louise LeCoque, who established the scholarship in honor of her late husband, Ervin J. LeCoque. A special celebration is being planned to honor Swanson and her family and provide an opportunity for the LeCoque family to formally congratulate her.
“My education will not only make a meaningful difference in my life, but in the lives of those around me,” Swanson said of the award. “I sincerely appreciate your generosity and creating positive benefits for the students who truly want to make a difference in the world.”
Established in 2025 in memory of community leader Ervin J. LeCoque, the scholarship reflects his lifelong commitment to investing in the community and opening doors through education. It covers tuition and fees for most University Center programs, helping MCC graduates earn a bachelor's degree while staying close to home.
“Mr. LeCoque understood that education creates opportunities—not just for individuals, but for entire communities,” said Brian DiBona, Executive Director of the Friends of MCC Foundation. “This scholarship carries that vision forward by helping MCC graduates take the next step in their education and their careers.”
