The McHenry County College (MCC) Speech and Debate team recently had a successful competition at the Shadwell/Dittus Speech Tournament, hosted by Elgin Community College on December 6 and 7.
MCC student Mark Luchsinger (McHenry) was recognized as Fourth Place Debate Speaker, received Bronze status as a semifinalist, and placed sixth in “Speaking to Entertain.” Clara Solek (Crystal Lake) placed fourth in “Speaking to Entertain.” Sabrina Nardi (Woodstock) took second place in Dramatic Interpretation.
“This was a strong way to finish the semester,” said program director Bonnie Gabel. “We’re looking forward to the spring semester, which will culminate in national competition in Norfolk, VA this April.”
MCC’s Speech and Debate team competes in a variety of oral interpretation and public speaking events throughout the year. The group focuses on the performance of literature, platform speaking, and debate to enhance the development of communication skills.
