Explore the Mysteries and Mechanics of Time April 26

We set the alarm, we run to catch a plane, we celebrate birthdays, and we watch a fleeting sunset knowing the sunrise always comes too soon. We are creatures of our clocks, tick tick-ticking away. Are we consumed with time, or is the time consumed by us? And just how do we define time? Join the Liebman Institute for Science Innovation (LISI) at McHenry County College (MCC) to learn this and more at “Time: Behind and Beyond the Clock” on Friday, April 26 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the College, 8900 US Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake.

The class will be led by John Clark, CEO of Masterclock, Inc. and Dr. Demetrios Matsakis, Astrophysicist and Chief Scientist at Masterclock, Inc.

Attendees will journey through the fascinating history of time, the science behind its measure, and the technology of time transfer. The session will also explore the intricate applications of time in diverse realms such as aerospace and defense, commercial enterprise, automation, and media.

Masterclock, Inc. is a small multimillion-dollar international company that builds timing systems synchronized to the Naval Observatory’s satellites. With Matsakis’ science and Clark’s entrepreneurship, they team up to provide precision timing for the world’s most time-sensitive users where a nanosecond difference can have catastrophic and/or astronomically expensive consequences.

Registration is required and costs $20 per person ($15 for a child/student/senior; children 5 and under free). Session includes libations, Q&A with presenters, and dessert.

The event is the first in LISI’s Lecture Series, which brings cutting-edge science topics to the forefront of our community and collective consciousness. As part of this series, participants will hear from leading researchers and visionaries on a variety of science-backed opportunities, impacts, and solutions.
