MCC's Sweet Scots Bakery Returns with Seasonal Treats

McHenry County College’s Sweet Scots Bakery is now open and ready to serve affordable and delicious treats to students, staff, and the community.

Part of the College’s Culinary Management program, the bakery offers freshly baked cookies, brownies, and pastries, plus lunch and breakfast specials each week.

“We are proud to be one of the few culinary programs in Illinois that offer a student-run bakery as a capstone class,” said Chef Tina Drzal, Culinary program department chair. “This provides a real working experience for our students, and community support has made this very successful.”

Among some of the returning favorite menu items are Earl Grey Cherry Tea Cookies, Espresso Cream Brownies, and Baked Pumpkin Spice Donuts. Most items are under $3. The bakery will also offer a wide variety of unique lunch and breakfast items each week, which will vary in pricing.

“We’re using local produce from our Horticulture department as well as an international holiday calendar to guide our specials each week,” said Drzal. “The bakery is planning on offering diverse specials for Rosh Hashana, Asian Moon Festival, World Vegan Day, and more.”

Vegan and gluten-free options are available in the bakery as well.

Sweet Scots can be found in the Scot Room at MCC (Room B177) Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. during the Fall semester. Credit, debit, and cash are accepted.
