McHenry County College Awards Tenure Status to Faculty Member

Horticulture and Entrepreneurial Agriculture instructor Garrett Beier was recently awarded tenure status by McHenry County College (MCC). Tenure is awarded to full-time faculty members who have completed a three-year probationary period and have met standards of instructional excellence in support of MCC’s mission and goals.

“Garrett joined MCC after moving his family from New York to face a few incredible challenges: continuing his teaching career at a new college, immediately being appointed department chair, and launching the Entrepreneurial Agriculture Degree to name a few,” said Tom McGee, Dean of Career and Technical Education at MCC. “Through all of this, Garrett has excelled and made a significant impact in Horticulture and Entrepreneurial Agriculture—both at MCC and in the county. We are proud to have Garrett at MCC and grateful for the value he brings to the classroom.”

To achieve tenure status, instructors are evaluated in content expertise, pedagogical skill, continued professional growth and development, and commitment to students and the community. They also undergo extensive observations and receive feedback from peers and administrators.

Awarding of tenure by the Board of Trustees signifies that both the faculty and the administration endorse this candidate as having the professional skills and personal qualities to contribute to student learning for many years to come.
