ECACE Program at MCC Covers Costs of Degrees, Certificates in Early Childhood Education

Students looking to pursue a career in early childhood education can now complete their degree or certificate with their tuition covered through McHenry County College’s partnership with the Early Childhood Access Consortium for Education (ECACE).

ECACE is a state-wide initiative with the goal to upskill the early childhood workforce through scholarships and other supports.

“The state of Illinois is currently experiencing a shortage of qualified early childhood educators,” said Jean Gaspari, MCC ECACE Coach. “The ECACE grant was developed to build a strong and well-prepared workforce.”

Those currently working in the early childhood field and looking to advance in their career can take advantage of the ECACE scholarship, which covers the full cost of attendance for qualified students. Full qualifications are listed at www.mchenry.edu/ecace

Those currently enrolled at least part-time at MCC, currently taking an Early Childhood Education class, and pursuing a certificate or degree in Early Childhood Education at MCC automatically qualify for the MCC ECACE Grant, which requires no separate application. The grant covers tuition, ECE-related textbooks, and a laptop.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to enter a rewarding career at little or no cost to them,” said Gaspari. “More than 90% of our students are hired at childcare centers within a few months of graduation, helping to fulfill the statewide employment gaps in our community.”

Students at MCC can earn an Early Childhood Education AAS degree as well as Early Childhood Level II and III Certificates.
