McHenry County College Launches Redesigned On-Track Program for Adult Learners

McHenry County College (MCC) has redesigned their degree program for busy adult learners. The On-Track program, formerly known as Fast Track, is intended for people who want to achieve their college and career goals but might have work, family, and other demands.

“We wanted to create the ideal program for people in our community who have a lot on their plate,” said Jim Disrude, director of student success at MCC. “It’s perfect for someone who wants to level up in their current career but doesn’t see a realistic path available to them through standard credit courses. Maybe they have a job but are looking for a career, want a fresh start, or have been thinking about returning to a degree that they paused at some point.”

The On-Track program provides clear, convenient course plans; small class sizes; dedicated advisors and supportive faculty; and workshops embedded into the schedule to support a student’s success at MCC and beyond. Participants will also move through the program with a community of fellow students, called a cohort, that will serve as a great support system before, during, and after class.

“Students will see the same faces every semester and be surrounded by students just like them who have many of the same goals and challenges with juggling school and life,” added Disrude.

Students will attend one in-person evening class and two flexible online classes per semester. Each student is required to complete 60 credits (20 classes) for their degree. In general, students will take three classes during the spring and fall semesters, along with one class during the summer term.

The program is launching in August 2022 with two Associate of Applied Science degrees, Business Management and Marketing.

“We are thrilled to partner with our Business Management and Marketing programs because they do an excellent job preparing students for management positions,” said Disrude. “Classes in these programs involve discussion, case studies, simulations, and application-based projects. Students will also fine-tune their skills and become more effective in decision making, problem solving, and human relations, all of which are key skills needed in any workplace setting.”

Virtual info sessions will be held throughout the spring and summer for interested participants to learn more about On-Track degrees, program structure, academic and financial resources, and get answers to any questions.
