Return to Title IV Funds
You must earn Federal financial aid. Aid eligibility is based on your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and your enrollment. You earn aid based on the number of credit hours you're enrolled in and the number of days you attend those classes.
If you withdraw from all of your classes prior to the census date (60% into the semester), a "return to title IV funds calculation" will be done. This means you will only earn a portion of the award, based on the number of days you attended. This may result in a balance due.
If you withdraw from a class prior to the census date, you will have your federal aid adjusted. For example:
A student enrolls full-time with 15 credit hours and has been awarded $2,865. The student then drops a three-credit-hour class prior to the census date, bringing them down to 12 credit hours. There would be no change in the award because the student is still considered full-time.
If the same 15 credit hour student drops 6 credit hours prior to the census date bringing them down to 9 credit hours, their aid will be adjusted. Nine credit hours is considered 3/4 time and the student’s award would be brought down to $2,149.
If you are marked “never attended” by your instructor prior to the census date, you will have your federal aid adjusted. For example:
A student is enrolled full-time with 12 credit hours and has been awarded $2,865. The student does not attend a 3-credit-hour class nor do they formally drop the class. The instructor may then mark the student “never attended” 10 days into the semester. This will adjust the student down to 9 credit hours. Nine credit hours is considered 3/4 time and the student’s award would be brought down to $2,149.
