Astronomy

Get an education that’s out of this world!

Astronomy looks at the origin, development, and future of the physical universe. You’ll learn about the solar system, stars and galaxies, black holes, quasars, pulsars, and neutron stars. Hands-on labs include a study of the constellations and telescopic observations, all with the assistance of MCC’s all-new on-campus planetarium. The planetarium—which is one of only four at community colleges in Illinois—has a digital projection system that displays an accurate arrangement of the stars and planets on an 8.3-meter dome.

By gaining a fundamental understanding of this exciting science, you’ll be ready to take the next steps and continue your studies to pursue a career in astronomy, meteorology, earth science, and more.

Transfer Pathways are for students who plan to continue their education at a four-year college or university to earn a bachelor’s degree. Students take courses toward an associate degree at MCC, then transfer credits to the college of their choice. It is important that students work closely with an MCC academic advisor and their transfer school to verify degree requirements.Students take courses toward an associate degree at MCC, then transfer credits to the college of their choice.
