The University Center at McHenry County College (MCC) recently welcomed prospective students and public safety professionals to an open house highlighting its Public Safety Management (PSM) transfer program. The event introduced attendees to a convenient and career-focused path toward earning a Bachelor of Science in Public Safety Management from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU).
Designed for students and professionals in fields such as fire science, emergency medical services (EMS), and criminal justice, the program offers a flexible, local option for completing a four-year degree in the field. Through the partnership, students can complete their first two years of study at MCC, then seamlessly transfer into the program offered in a hybrid format, on-site at the University Center at MCC in Woodstock and online.
“This SIU degree program is very well known and sought after in the state of Illinois,” said Kailley Harmon, Executive Director of the University Center at MCC. “SIU is one of the only universities that recognizes the Associate of Applied Science degree, which allows students to seamlessly transfer and begin their studies to obtain the bachelor's degree. We are grateful for this partnership that aligns with our MCC mission for student success.”
More than 40 prospective students attended the open house, where they met with program representatives, learned about admissions and coursework, and discovered how the PSM degree can support leadership and advancement opportunities in the public safety field.
“Students are excited to have an opportunity that is not only close to their home and work, but also offers unique flexibility in course format for those in this area of work,” added Harmon.
