My Sister’s Dress Sale Raises More than $11,000

The Friends of McHenry County College (MCC) Foundation recently teamed up with nonprofit organization My Sister’s Dress to raise funds for scholarships and make prom more affordable for students.

More than 1,000 dresses were donated for this year’s sale. Dresses were priced at just $30 each and accessories were sold for $5. 318 dresses were sold, and seven were paid for by community members for those who needed additional help. All unsold dresses were donated to Cinderella’s Closet for their event held the following weekend.

“We are deeply thankful for the generosity and collaboration of the My Sister’s Dress committee,” said Brian DiBona, Executive Director of the Friends of MCC Foundation. “This event, along with the scholarship program, has a significant impact on the lives of students in our area.”

The sale, which happened on February 23 at MCC, raised more than $11,000. The proceeds were split between Holiday Heroes and the Education to Empowerment scholarship and mentoring program presented by the Friends of MCC Foundation.

The Education to Empowerment (E2E) Scholarship provides $10,000 in funding that can be applied toward tuition, books, and fees for a recipient’s last year at MCC and first year at an accredited four-year institution. Last year, Education to Empowerment awarded $10,000 to 10 students. Since its inception, E2E has awarded a total of $720,000 to 77 students.
