The McHenry County College (MCC) Speech and Debate team achieved success at the Litrenta Triangle Tournament, which was hosted by Harper College February 14-15.

Taking the top two spots for Debate and Debate Speaker Sweepstakes were first-place Mark Luchsinger (McHenry) and second-place Caden Kotecki (Harvard). Placing second for Dramatic Interpretation was Sabrina Nardi (McHenry). Also competing were Elsbeth Haylock (Hebron) and Clara Solak (Crystal Lake).

“I’m so impressed with this team and how they are excelling by placing highly after advancing to finals,” said Speech and Debate program director Bonnie Gabel.

The Speech and Debate team competes in a variety of oral interpretation and public speaking events throughout the year. The group focuses on the performance of literature, platform speaking, and debate to enhance the development of communication skills.

The team will present their Spring Showcase on Thursday, April 3 at 2:30 and 7 p.m. in Room A211 at the College, just prior to their trip to the Phi Rho Pi National Tournament held in Norfolk, VA.
