Basic Nursing Assistant Certificate Admission Process and Guidelines

Getting Started

  1. Apply to the college
    • If haven’t taken a class at MCC before, complete the MCC application online.
    • Contact Admissions at (815) 479-7732 or recruit@mchenry.edu with questions about the application process.
    • If you've previously applied to MCC, you do not need to complete another application. Call Admissions at (815) 455-8530 to verify your status if you have questions.
    • If you want to transfer college credits from another institution, choose to have your transcript evaluated when you complete the MCC application. Then follow the instructions for sending official transcripts from the institutions you previously attended.
  2. Provide proof of the academic prerequisite
    • Students must be 16 years old by course completion and have an eighth-grade education; and have an ACT Reading test score of 18 or higher, an Accuplacer Reading placement score of 226 or higher, SAT evidence-based Reading and Writing score of 320 or higher, or ENG 151 with a grade of C or higher.
    • If you’ve previously taken credit courses at MCC, contact Advising at (815) 479-7565 for assistance.
    • If you want to transfer college credits from another institution, you can request a transcript evaluation by emailing evaluation@mchenry.edu, if you have not already requested transcript evaluation(s) on the MCC application.
    • Take the Accuplacer English placement test for reading, if necessary.
  3. Complete Online New-Student Orientation
    • Required for new full-time students (taking 12 credit hours or more)
    • Optional for part-time students
