McHenry County College (MCC) is currently hosting two unique art exhibits in Galleries One and Two and the Epping Gallery respectively.
On display through February 20 in Galleries One and Two, located inside and outside the Learning Commons, is Interplay by Perry Pollock. The painted wood constructions in this exhibition focus on the interplay of shape, color, and edge. Some works reference objects of childhood play – gameboards, blocks, or candy – but fundamentally they explore visual and tactile qualities within a geometric framework.
Perry Pollock is a practicing artist and professor of drawing and painting at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois. He received his B.F.A. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1985, and his M.F.A from Bradley University in 1987. His work has been exhibited predominantly in the Chicagoland area at venues including the Beverly Arts Center, Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Loyola University Crown Center Gallery, and Rockford University Gallery.
There will be an artist reception with Pollock on Wednesday, February 18 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in Gallery One (A212). The event is free and open to the public.

On display in the Epping Gallery through February 13 will be The Posture of a Place by Maria Sisul. The Epping Gallery is located on the lower level of Building B, across from the MCC Store.
Sisul paints naturally occurring scenes from her life to bring clarity and vividness to the moments we quickly pass, depicting the inspiration within our dedication, attention, small desires, and acts of service. Intentionally cropped and balanced compositions, along with precise forms and lighting, reflect the subject’s internal landscape. The environment acts as a witness and voice for figures that face away from the viewer.
Maria Sisul is a painter based in Beach Park, Illinois, who works primarily with acrylic on wood panel. Raised between the values of a Midwestern farming family and a Croatian immigrant father, her work is rooted in an early awareness of labor, place, and the quiet rituals that structure daily life. She holds a BFA in Industrial Design from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. For more details about Sisul, visit www.mariasisul.com or follow her on Instagram @mariasisul.
