Monday, March 08, 2010 MCC TO "GO GREEN" ON TRIP TO SHREK THE MUSICAL
Save your green from St. Patrick's Day to wear on a trip with McHenry County College to see the Broadway production of "SHREK, the Musical" at the Cadillac Palace in Chicago on Wednesday, Aug. 4. A motorcoach bus leaves the College parking lot at 9:15 a.m. and returns at 7 p.m. the day of the show. Bring the whole family to see Chicago's "make-ogre" of Shrek, the musical, based on the Oscar(r) winning DreamWorks film. The musical stars everyone's beloved ogre who brings excitement to the Broadway stage with spectacular sets, puppets of various sizes and a large energetic cast. Cost is $115 per person and lunch is on your own in Chicago.

The second annual Women's Care Fair and interactive expo will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 at McHenry County College in the MCC Commons Area in Building B featuring free demos, samples, and interactive displays, including free chair massages, self-defense tips, and nutritional advice. The event is in conjunction with Women's History Month at MCC and is free and open to the public.

March is Women's History Month and McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department is offering two new informative classes to help brighten the future of women who are ready to work or looking toward retirement. Upcoming classes are: "Returning to Work: Strategies for Comeback Moms" that meets from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13 in Room A117 and costs $29 and "Retirement Planning for Women" that meets from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 in Room E204. Cost is $59.

Tuesday, March 02, 2010 MCC TO OFFER "SCOTSTARS" GIRLS SOFTBALL CLINIC MARCH 14
The McHenry County College Athletics Department, in conjunction with MCC Lady Scots' softball, is sponsoring the inaugural "ScotStars" Softball Clinic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 14 for girls ages 8-12. The clinic sessions are coordinated by the MCC softball coaching staff and will be held in the MCC Gym located in Building A on the college campus, located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake. The 2010 Lady Scots softball team will be available to assist the participants. Participants will learn and practice skills, improve self-confidence, knowledge, ability, and appreciate the positive aspects of softball. Cost is $30 for hitting and other skills clinic (2 hours), $15 for pitching clinic (1 hour) or $45 for both clinics.

Tuesday, March 02, 2010 MCC TO HOST TAKE A WALK IN HER SHOES BALL MARCH 19 TO BENEFIT MCC STUDENTS
The Friends of McHenry County College Foundation will host the Take a Walk in Her Shoes Ball, an evening of fashion, footwear and fun at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 19 at the Holiday Inn in Crystal Lake. Held in conjunction with Women's History Month, both men and women are invited. Shoes are the inspiration for the event, as they symbolize the steps each of us take on our own journey, according to Kathrine Pfister, MCC development coordinator. Live entertainment will feature the band Always Frantic (formerly known as Triology). Cost is $50 per person and includes hors d'oeuvres with a cash bar.

Monday, March 01, 2010 MCC TO OFFER CREW MANAGEMENT SAFETY SEMINAR MARCH 12
A Crew Management Safety Seminar will be taught from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 12 at the Shah Center in McHenry. This program has been well-attended in the past by crews working in the county and it continues to be a successful, safety-conscious program that includes a "Crew Management Certificate" for attendees. Past attendees have included crews in service industriesas well as business owners and professional municipal foremen and their employees. A variety of issues will be addressed, including safety, loss control, cutting employee cost and preventing down time. Cost is $150, which includes a workbook.

Monday, March 01, 2010 MCC PEACE GROUP TO HOST SEMINAR ON U.S. PRISON SYSTEM
The McHenry County College Student Peace Action Network (SPAN) will host a seminar titled, "The United States: Leading Jailer of the World," at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4 in the college's conference center. The keynote speaker is Vince Gaddis, Ph. D., associate professor and department chair of history, philosophy, theology and global studies at Benedictine University. He will talk about how the U.S. incarcerates more people than any country in the world and how the prison system has turned into an industry. The event is free and open to the public.

The critically acclaimed documentary, Fish Out Of Water, a film that dissects the seven Bible verses used to condemn homosexuality and justify marriage discrimination, will screen at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at McHenry County College, 8900 U.S. Highway 14 in Crystal Lake. The Black Box Theatre at McHenry County College will present "Pippin" with book by Roger Hirson and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz on March 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, and 20. March is Women's History Month, and McHenry County College is "Writing Women Back into History" by offering a variety of fun and educational events to celebrate, including free lectures, a Women's Care Fair, their fifth annual Women's Film Festival and more. Women's History Month will kick off at 11:30 a.m. March 2 in Room B166 with a Lunch-n-Learn lecture and discussion on "Sisterhood and Betrayal" presented by Flecia Thomas, Ph.D., dean of Student Success at MCC. This topic will focus on acknowledging and preventing workplace betrayal.

McHenry County College's Professional Education Department will offer a real estate pre-licensing class that meets from 6-10 p.m. Wednesday evenings from March 3 through May 12 at the Shah Center, located at 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry. Anyone interested in becoming a real estate agent is required to take Real Estate Fundamentals in order to sit for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation's Real Estate Licensing Exam. Monday, March 01, 2010 MCC TO LAUNCH PRIORITY REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER SEMESTER
McHenry County College will launch a new priority registration system for the Summer 2010 semester, giving currently enrolled students who are nearest to degree completion priority when enrolling in courses they need to complete their degree. Priority registration for summer classes will be available from March 9 through March 12, either in-person in the MCC Registration Office, Room A258 or using Internet registration at any computer terminal on campus. Current students will receive a postcard with their priority registration date, which is the first day students will be allowed to register. Students may register on or after their priority date. Off-campus Internet registration and new student registration will not be available until 8 a.m. beginning March 15

Monday, March 01, 2010 OSHA 10-HOUR FOR GENERAL INDUSTRY TRAINING SET AT SHAH CENTER
The McHenry County College Shah Center is accepting registrations for the OSHA 10-hour in General Industry training that meets from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, March 15 and 17. This course, facilitated by OSHA certified Accident Prevention Corporation, is ideal for supervisors with safety and health responsibilities and for employee safety and health awareness. Participants will be introduced to OSHA policies, procedures and standards as well as general industry safety and health principles covered in OSHA Act Part 1910. This program will be held at the Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry. Cost is $159, which includes materials.

Monday, March 01, 2010 "FIVE DYSFUNCTIONS OF A TEAM" COURSE OFFERED AT MCC SHAH CENTER
Leadership training based on Patrick Lencioni's best-selling "Five Dysfunctions of a Team" will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 17 and 24 at the McHenry County College Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry. This course explores and addresses the fundamental causes of organizational politics and team failure, which include: Absence of Trust, Fear of Conflict, Lack of Commitment, Avoidance of Accountability, and Inattention to Results. Participants will obtain tools to begin the process of building a functional, lasting team. This training is appropriate for front-line through senior-level leaders.
