Web Design and Development AAS

Are you interested in combining your creativity and computer know-how with a love of web design and animation? MCC offers certificate and degree programs that will prepare you for a number of careers in this up-and-coming industry.

Web designers often create the front-end design of sites or complete static sites. They usually partner with developers who know how to do high-level programming and work with databases to develop e-commerce sites.

In the program, you’ll learn the fundamental skills needed to design a website and compete in today’s ever-changing digital industries. The web design and development degree combines the skills you need to create complete commerce sites. You’ll learn solid design techniques and the programming and database skills required to implement them—plus, you’ll work in programs in both Mac and PC, so you’ll be ready to create products in either environment.

    The mission of McHenry County College’s Web Development Program is to develop students who are skilled in systems design, interface design, coding, and development tools. MCC students shall be distinguishable by their critical thinking, effective communication, professionalism, and technical competency. Students will use current and contemporary practices to demonstrate mastery in the Program Learning Outcomes.

    1. Analyze business web development needs and develop digital solutions for those needs.
    2. Select technologies appropriate to implement web-based solutions for business needs.
    3. Evaluate and apply responsive design choices that meet customer needs and address the variety of technologies that may be used to access the website.
    4. Select appropriate resources based upon legal guidelines for licensing and fair use.
    5. Integrate multiple technologies into a comprehensive business solution.
    6. Implement effective project management to handle deadlines, communication, and budgets.

Semesters to complete assumes students are taking a full-time credit load of 12 credits per semester (the minimum required for federal financial aid).

Proportion of students completing in normal time is the percentage of completers who earned the credential within the specified time of their first enrollment at the College.

Students attending part-time or changing their program of study are two common reasons why they may not complete in "normal" time.
