MCC student Jason Ramirez recently had the opportunity to apply some of the business skills he’s been learning in the classroom.
Ramirez, who is studying Business Administration at MCC, finished a Fall semester internship at Mixed Media Group, an advertising company that offers billboards in the Chicagoland area, Eastern Iowa, and Detroit.
He originally found out about the internship from his student success coaches at MCC, Chris Gluth, and Bianca Lopez.
“I was interested in getting some real-world experience in customer service and marketing,” he said of his decision to pursue the internship.
Some of his duties included customer care, client development, and graphic design for both client proposals and current campaigns.
“I was able to practice my skills in time management and working with people. Both play a crucial role when meeting deadlines,” Ramirez said. “I also learned to adapt to a new field and work with new software.”
One of his favorite projects involved designing the advertisement sign for Woodstock when it was named one of the “Merriest Main Streets” by the Today Show in December 2022.
“It was exciting to work with the City of Woodstock to create a sign that could demonstrate how special the award was for the holiday season,” he said.
Jason’s goal is to pursue a career as a financial analyst or advisor after he graduates in May. He is also involved in Latinos Unidos and Business Club at MCC.
Ramirez recommends the internship experience to other students.
“The knowledge you gain from books may differ from its actual application,” he said. “Seeing the real world of your field changes everything.”
