McHenry County College to Offer Transferrable 12-Week Classes[Thursday, September 3, 2020]
McHenry County College recently added a selection of 12-week class offerings for students who may have been unsure of their plans or missed the original deadline for classes. These transferrable courses fulfill general education requirements and will deliver the same content as the traditional 16-week classes, but in an abbreviated timeframe.
"Our goal this fall was to create convenient options that show our students there's still a path forward amongst all the uncertainty—there are many ways to continue pursuing their goals," said Amy Carzoli, director of enrollment services at MCC.
"Being flexible and agile in the way we deliver classes has allowed us to remove some of the barriers that may have prevented students from starting school," echoed Chris Gray, vice president of academic affairs and workforce development.
Some of the classes offered in the 12-week format include Intro to Psychology, Intro to Sociology, and Intro to Film; Music Appreciation; and Art Appreciation. The classes start September 14.
"Students are welcome to join us for just a class or two, or they can build a full schedule of transferrable classes if they are planning on going back to a four-year school," Carzoli said.
To accommodate students' personal preferences, the College also created five different modes of instruction for the fall that range from on-campus delivery to learning in an entirely online format. The delivery method for each class is notated on the course selection when registering, so students are encouraged to double check they have selected their preferred format when building a schedule.
Extensive protective measures are in place for those who choose to come to campus. Students, employees, and visitors undergo daily health screenings and temperature checks upon entrance, and face masks must be worn at all times within the building.
