MCC will host its annual Veterans Day recognition ceremony at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 8 in the Luecht Auditorium in Building B at MCC, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
Community members, student veterans, faculty, staff, and guests are invited to the event, which will feature a guest speaker, patriotic music performed by MCC's faculty brass quintet, and a presentation of the colors by a combined service color guard.
The keynote speaker will be retired Colonel JD Willis of Crystal Lake. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years, most recently as the Deputy Director of Intelligence, Operations, and Nuclear Integration for Technical Training, Headquarters Air Education, and Training Command at the Randolph Air Force Base in Texas.
Over the course of his career, Willis served in many operational and staff positions, ranging from unit to combatant command level in locations across the country. He has been recognized with the Legion of Merit award as well as several medals, including those for Defense Meritorious Service, Meritorious Service, Joint Service Commendation, and Joint Service Achievement; all of which with at least one Oak Leaf Cluster.
"MCC's annual Veterans Day program is a wonderful opportunity for us to honor our country's military veterans," said Dr. Judi Cameron, MCC instructor of Anthropology, and adviser for the Student Veterans of America Chapter at the College. "Throughout the year, MCC offers many services and programs designed to help student veterans come together and feel a sense of connectivity, as well as promote advocacy and an understanding of issues pertaining to those with military experience."
