MCC Names Winners of High School WYSE 2018 Competition[Friday, February 23, 2018]
Prairie Ridge won first place in WYSE Division 1500 Marian Central won first place in WYSE Division 700
Marian Central High School, Prairie Ridge High School and Barrington High School were the first place winners in three separate divisions in the 2018 McHenry County Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) competition, hosted recently by McHenry County College.
In Division 700 (enrollment under 700), Marian Central took first place and Johnsburg High School took second. In Division 1500 (701-1500 students), Prairie Ridge finished first, Richmond-Burton High School finished second and Marengo Community High School finished third. In Division Unlimited (enrollment greater than 1500 students), Barrington finished first, Cary-Grove High School finished second and Crystal Lake South High School finished third. The first and second place teams qualify for the sectionals on March 6 in Vernon Hills.
In total, 15 area high schools participated with more than 200 students competing for top scores in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, math, and physics. The Academic Challenge is a competitive series of tests created and administered by WYSE and offered to high school students in Illinois and Missouri. The tests are offered by more than 50 community colleges and universities and are designed to present a challenge to the brightest students.
