Learn a New Language at MCC for Fun or Job Advancement

Learn a language for fun, travel or job advancement with non-credit language classes offered by McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department. Classes include German, Spanish and American Sign Language.

The following classes begin soon:

German I: Explore Germany’s rich history and diverse culture while learning how to speak German. This course is ideal for those aspiring to travel to German-speaking countries and/or learn basic German grammar, practice word pronunciation and phrase study. The required book is “The Everything Learning German Book,” second edition, with CD included, ISBN: 9781598699890. Textbook must be purchased prior to start of class and is not available in the MCC Bookstore. Class takes place from 6:30-8:20 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25 through March 15 in Room A241. Use course code: NFL S21 005 to register. Cost is $119.

Spanish I: Focus on the beginning aspects of Spanish, including basic writing, speaking, pronunciation, listening, and understanding, plus explore the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. Students will use grammar, vocabulary, and verbs in the most basic structure of the language. Book requirement will be discussed at the first class. Class takes place from 12:30-2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30 through March 20 in Room A207. Cost is $119. Use course code: NFL S05 001 to register. Cost is $119.

American Sign Language I: Learn fingerspelling and basic survival signs that can be used in a variety of settings. The required textbook is: “A Basic Course in American Sign Language,” by Tom Humphries, Carol Padden, and Terrence J. O’Rourke, ISBN-13: 978-0932666420. The book must be purchased on your own prior to the start of class and is not available in the MCC Bookstore. No class on March 26. Class takes place from Monday, Feb. 5 through April 30. Choose either a morning class or evening class: from 9:30-11:20 a.m. in Room E204 (course code NFL S01 001) or 6:30-8:20 p.m. in Room A241. Cost is $139 for either class.
