MCC Opens Registration for Summer 2023 Kids and College Program

Keep your kids entertained and learning this summer with the Kids and College program at McHenry County College (MCC). The program offers a variety of quality, affordable classes for students entering grades 1-9. Campers will have the chance to engage and explore with innovative learning skills that will expand their knowledge in many areas. All Summer 2023 classes will be held in person at the College.

New classes start each week from June 5 – July 27. Most classes are available in one-week sessions (MTWTh) or three-day sessions (TWTh). Participants can choose from morning classes (9 a.m.–Noon), afternoon classes (1–4 p.m.), or both. If both are chosen, a supervised lunch period is provided from 12–1 p.m.

“We have a great lineup of classes this summer for our new and returning campers,” said Tressman Goode, coordinator of the Kids and College Program at MCC. “We’ve brought back many of our popular classes, including our Camp Invention® series, welding camp, honeybees, game design, and Minecraft, and have added new offerings such as theatre, environmental explorers, cookie decorating, and more. We’re looking forward to welcoming campers back to campus!”

The National Inventors Hall of Fame Camp Invention® series offered during Kids and College is a nationwide summer program that provides creative, open-ended learning opportunities for students entering grades K–6. The four-day camp will include a rotation of four adventures—Mimicbot, Catching Air, Invention Celebration, and Pop-Up Venture. The camp will run from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., June 5 – 8 at MCC’s Shah Center in McHenry. Limited space is available.

“Camp Invention promises to challenge the minds of our campers and allow them to explore their interests in becoming future inventors,” said Goode. “We are thrilled to offer this experience right here at MCC.”

MCC’s welding camps were also selected by Nuts, Bolts, and Thingamajigs, the nationwide charitable foundation of the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, for a camp grant.

Students will be placed in their appropriate grade level groups of 20–25 campers to ensure they receive personal attention from teachers. Courses are taught by exceptional teachers, MCC faculty, and camp counselors who will engage campers with their passion and enthusiasm.
