MCC Forms Partnership with Motor Werks and Mercedes-Benz, Hosting Program Open House September 20

McHenry County College’s Automotive Technology Program has partnered with Mercedes-Benz USA and Motor Werks of Barrington to offer an exciting new training opportunity.

The Mercedes-Benz MB Campus curriculum will now be integrated into MCC’s Advanced Automotive Certificate and AAS programs, meaning students who complete the programs will become registered Mercedes-Benz technicians who can complete warranty repairs when employed at authorized dealerships. MCC is one of only six colleges in the state and one of 65 across the country to offer this opportunity.

“Students who have this credential on their resume show a dedication to furthering their education, even if they do not pursue a position at a Mercedes-Benz dealership,” said Nathan Kivley, Automotive Department Chair at MCC. “This will make MCC students stand out from other applicants, and potentially enjoy a more competitive salary, greater benefits, and more opportunities for advancement in their future careers.”

“We hope the MB Campus program can help the students of MCC turn their passion into a rewarding career,” said Rick Pennick, aftersales operations manager of the western central region at Mercedes-Benz. “From engine diagnostics to electrical systems, the program combines online and real-world teaching to prepare students with the skills they will need as a Mercedes-Benz Technician.”

In the program, students will get hands-on experience with Mercedes-Benz technologies while forming an expert skill set using some of the industry’s latest equipment. The partnership is expected to be beneficial for both students and local employers.

“Mercedes dealerships will be able to hire candidates that are more prepared for their specific work environment, and other employers will be able to hire more confidently knowing students with this training took the time to increase their own knowledge,” Kivley added.

All classes will be held in the Automotive Lab at MCC. No prior automotive experience is needed to enroll.

The College is hosting an open house about the program on Tuesday, September 20 from Noon – 7 p.m. in MCC’s Main Automotive Lab in Building D. Students will be able to learn more about the program; ask questions from Mercedes-Benz, Motor Werks, and MCC representatives; and enjoy a variety of vehicle demonstrations, overviews, and test rides throughout the day.

“The vehicle demonstrations will highlight the many technological advancements on Mercedes-Benz vehicles along with the knowledge required to service them,” said Kivley. “We’ll also have a variety of prizes, giveaways, and refreshments.”

The event is free to attend and open to the public. No registration is required.
