MCC Welcomes Members of the Mexican Consulate to Celebrate IME Becas Scholarship Recipients

McHenry County College (MCC) recently welcomed three members of the Consulate of Mexico in Chicago to honor 13 IME Becas Scholarship recipients. The scholarship is given to help improve access and opportunities for Mexicans or persons of Mexican origin living in the United States.

During a lunch on August 25, Ambassador Reyna Torres, Sandra Patricia Mendoza Duran, and Luis Cedeño joined MCC students and staff to celebrate the partnership. Students shared stories of how the scholarship made a positive impact in their lives and expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded to them through the program. Ambassador Torres, MCC President Dr. Clint Gabbard, and Brian DiBona, Executive Director of the Friends of MCC Foundation also shared remarks of encouragement with the students.

“We were honored to have Ambassador Torres and her team visit our campus,” said DiBona. “It was inspiring to hear our students share their stories. They are so genuinely appreciative of the support they’ve received.”

To date, MCC has awarded $51,500 in IME Becas Scholarships to 51 MCC students. $22,400 in funding has come from the Consulate of Mexico in Chicago and $29,100 has been provided by the Friends of MCC Foundation.

The IME Becas scholarship awards up to $1,000 per semester. If a student qualifies as a Mexican National or person of Mexican origin, applications for the scholarship can be submitted in the Friends of MCC Foundation Office at MCC (A219).
