McHenry County's Official 2022 Green Guide Now Available

Wondering where to recycle some of those items you’ve found in your annual spring cleaning? The 2022 McHenry County Green Guide, now available online, features the latest information on recycling hazardous household waste, electronics, motor oil, light bulbs, batteries, and Styrofoam.

All categories in the 16th edition of the publication are updated with the latest recycling information, including tips on recycling aerosols, paint, propane tanks, and single-use personal protective equipment (PPE). The guide also contains guest articles from Flat Can Recycling, Inc. and Terracycle, as well as details for multiple county-wide electronics collections, shredding events, and the household hazard waste collection event in June.

“Each year we produce the Green Guide, it is wonderful to discover and share new resources for our hard-to-recycle items,” said Kim Hankins, director of the Sustainability Center at McHenry County College (MCC). “Flat Can Recycling offers great tips for recycling aerosol cans and small propane tanks (p.2), and we are also thrilled that the McHenry Department of Health is offering the community another household hazardous waste collection (p.9). We are grateful for the opportunity to dispose of these toxic items safely and responsibly.”

The Green Guide is available online at www.mchenry.edu/green, and a printed version can also be requested by emailing sustainability@mchenry.edu. A fully translated Spanish version will be available soon and can also be requested via email. Printed copies will be available at local municipalities after April 22.
