McHenry County College Receives $25,000 Motorola Solutions Foundation Grant

McHenry County College (MCC) today announced it has received a $25,000 grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions.

Through the grant, MCC will provide 10 scholarships for students studying Criminal Justice, Emergency Medical Services, or Fire Science, with preference given to applicants who are female, people of color, low-income or first-generation, students with disabilities, or those who are underrepresented in the fields of public safety. The scholarship will be known as the Motorola Solutions Foundation Public Safety Scholarship.

“MCC is pleased to receive this grant award and put it directly towards student scholarships. This exciting opportunity will create meaningful impact not only for the student recipients, but also for the communities they serve in our region,” said Dawn Katz, dean of Social Sciences and Public Services at MCC. "We are proud to provide award-winning training to first responders and thrilled this grant will allow more support and access to students."

Each year, the Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants to charitable organizations to support three primary areas of focus: first responder programming, technology and engineering education, and programs that blend the two. Within each area of focus, the grant program supports underrepresented populations, including women, people of color, people with disabilities, the LGBTQ community, veterans, and others.

"The Motorola Solutions Foundation aims to partner with organizations that align to our values of accountability, innovation, impact, diversity, and inclusion," said Karem Perez, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. "We are proud to support organizations like MCC that embody these values while driving positive change in their communities.”

“MCC is thrilled to be a recipient of a grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation,” added Brian DiBona, executive director of the Friends of MCC Foundation. “Through their generous support, we will be able to offer additional scholarships to students in first responder programs with a focus on diversity and underrepresented groups.”

Each Motorola Solutions Foundation Public Safety Scholarship award is $1,250 for Spring 2022, and is renewable for the same amount in Fall 2022 if eligibility requirements are maintained.
