High School Student FAQ
MCC has worked closely with Illinois state colleges and universities to ensure that we have coursework that will transfer. - What if I don't know what I want to major in?
Even if you don’t know what to choose as a major, you can complete your general education requirements that are commonly required at nearly all four-year institutions. General education courses are a great opportunity to explore various subjects to discover your interests for potential majors. Visit Advising and Transfer Center to help you choose a major or explore different career options through Career Services.
- Can I take college classes while I'm still in high school?
Yes, high school students can take MCC classes through the Running Start Program. Many high schools also offer Dual Credit, which allows students to earn credit at their own school. Contact your high school counselor office for information.
- Will the credits I earn at MCC transfer to the school I want to go to?

- Will I have to take classes every day?
Students at MCC design their schedules to meet their needs and responsibilities. You don't have to attend classes every day, but you certainly can if you want to.
- How long will I be at MCC ?
If you are pursuing a two-year associate degree you can expect to be at MCC for at least two full academic years. It may take longer for students who are not attending classes on a full-time basis.
- What kind of athletic programs are at MCC?
MCC has eight athletic teams; four women's and four men's teams. The sports we offer include: men's and women's basketball, men's baseball, women's softball, men's soccer, women's volleyball, and men's and women's tennis. Learn more about athletics.
- Are there student clubs that I can join?
