ADN Program Preadmission Testing Guidelines

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS®) is used as a pre-admission test for the McHenry County College Nursing Program. No other nursing preadmission exam scores will be considered.

TEAS at MCC is open to MCC students only. Contact the Nursing Department at (815) 455-8710 with questions.

  • What are the testing dates and times?

    MCC students may take the Fall 2020 TEAS virtually or in-person.

    • Review the video and requirements from the TEAS website to determine if virtual testing will work for you.

    • Each testing session is limited to 12 seats per session.
    • TEAS Registration begins 8/24/20 at 9 a.m. | TEAS Registration deadline: 9/10/20

    September 2020 TEAS Test Dates:

    • 9/15/20 at 1 p.m. - virtual
    • 9/16/20 at 9 a.m. - virtual
    • 9/17/20 at 9 a.m. - in-person

    TEAS Retake registration begins: 9/18/20 at 9 a.m. | TEAS Retake Registration deadline: 9/22/20

    September 2020 TEAS Retake Dates:

    • 9/29/20 at 1 p.m. - virtual
    • 9/30/20 at 1 p.m. - in-person
  • How do I sign-up and pay for the TEAS?

    Other details you need to know

    • TEAS is only open to MCC students
    • It is your (the student’s) responsibility to register for the exam
    • Late registrations will not be allowed
    • There will be no refunds once you have registered
    • You cannot withdrawal or cancel your registration for the TEAS
    • If you arrive late, you will not be permitted to take the TEAS and will forfeit your registration fee
    • There is an optional ten minute break during this time period.  If you are late returning from break, you will not be allowed to continue the test. You may leave once you complete the fourth exam.
  • What do I need to bring on the day of the test?
    • A current, signed government-issued photo ID to testing. The only acceptable IDs are:
      • driver’s license
      • government or state ID card
      • military ID
      • passport
      • alien residency (green) card

      If you don’t have driver's license or state ID, you can obtain one at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

    • Your MCC ID number
    • Your ATI username and password
    • Two sharpened #2 pencils

    Late arrivals will not be allowed to take the exam and will not receive a refund of the test fee.

    Other important testing information

    • Failure to bring a your ATI username and password will invalidate your test appointment
    • Anyone without proper identification will not be allowed to test
    • Late arrivals will not be allowed to test
    • No food or drinks are permitted during the exam
    • Personal calculators are not allowed
    • Please leave personal belongings and cellphones in your vehicles, if possible
  • What is the TEAS like?
    • The TEAS is comprised of four individual exams in the following areas: reading, mathematics, science, and English.   
    • ATI has updated the exam with a new format. Please visit www.atitesting.com for details.
    • About 4.5 hours are allotted for the actual testing.
    • The TEAS is in an online format using the ATI (Assessment Technologies Institute, L.L.C.) website
      • Proctored, timed assessment format (which means you cannot go back or review previously answered questions. Skipped questions will be counted as incorrect).
    • To do well on the TEAS, complete most of the supportive courses, especially the science courses, prior to testing.
  • Are there study materials?

    Study guides are available in the bookstore.

    You can purchase the study guide and online practice tests online at www.atitesting.com/onlinestore. They are not available at any library.
