MCC Speaker Series Encourages Healthy Conversations About Relationships, Sexuality

[Tuesday, February 11, 2020]

McHenry County College (MCC) announces the next event in their popular Experts and Insights speaker series, a set of free presentations led by College faculty members. The series is an opportunity for the community to experience the high quality of education and expertise provided by MCC’s faculty as they share their knowledge about topics in their fields of study.

On Thursday, February 20, Dr. Christine Grela, a psychology instructor at MCC, will present “Let’s Talk about Sex,” a conversation surrounding the importance of having discussions about sexuality. In the session, Grela will explain how children and parents can have conversations about things like contraception and safe sex, and will also discuss sexuality-related issues facing those at other stages of life, including infertility, birth, healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, sex among seniors, and body image.

“Only one in ten Illinois schools covers all the recommended information about sexuality education,” said Grela. “This leaves a lot of people searching the internet for answers to some of the hard questions they have about the topic—and sometimes not getting the best information as a result. This session will provide the framework people need to have honest, open conversations about these important issues that affect us all.”

Other upcoming topics in the Experts and Insights series include: “Leadership, Communication, and the Recipe for Success” on March 19; “Get Happy! What Psychology Can Tell Us About Happiness” on April 16; and “Wise and Well: A Healthy Balance” on May 14.

The session begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Luecht Auditorium at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake. Light refreshments and appetizers will be provided starting at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. For more information on all upcoming presentations and presenting faculty, visit
