MCC to Offer College Readiness Workshop Series for High School Students[Monday, January 14, 2019]
McHenry County College invites all high juniors to attend a College Readiness Workshop Series to get organized for next fall’s college application season. The workshop series takes place from 5:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Feb. 28, March 7, March 14 and March 21.
This four-part series aims to provide students with the tools and knowledge and confidence to start the college application and decision process. Seniors and sophomores are also welcome to register.
Workshops take place from Topics include: personal college needs, wants, match and fit assessment; college research tools and strategies, letters of recommendation and resume planning, researching the true college costs, and brainstorming and topics on personal statements and essay questions.
Kristen Mueller, multicultural student transition specialist, said that all students can benefit from brushing up on the college application process, no matter if they’re first-generation college students or if their parents have master’s degrees or higher.
“Navigating the college processes is challenging,” said Kristen Mueller, multicultural student transition specialist. “Everyone benefits from brushing up on the college application, research process, and getting started process. The truth is that the process for getting into college looks totally different from when it did when our students’ parents went to college.”
According to Mueller, 100 percent of students surveyed who completed last year’s College Readiness Workshop reported that they will be able to use what they learned in this workshop, that the workshop lived up to their expectations, and that they know more about the college research and preparation process now than they did before the workshop began.
Students are encouraged to attend all four sessions. Register online to reserve your seat: www.mchenry.edu/ready.
