MCC To Host Smart Start Workshop to Teach Women Salary Negotiation for New Jobs

[Thursday, September 13, 2018]

McHenry County College is partnering with the Crystal Lake Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to host a Start Smart Workshop from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26 in Room A211.

The AAUW Start Smart is specifically designed to teach young women how to negotiate salaries for a new job. Participants at this free two-hour workshop will gain confidence in negotiation styles through facilitated discussion and role-play. In addition, participants will learn: how to identify and articulate their personal value, how to develop an arsenal of persuasive responses and other strategies to use when negotiating, and how to conduct objective market research to benchmark a target salary and benefits. Attendees will also learn about the pay gap, including its long-term consequences.

The event is free and open to MCC female students and women in the community, but registration is encouraged as seating is limited. To reserve a seat, contact the MCC Career Services Department at careers@mchenry.edu or click on AAUW Start Smart Registration.

For more information, contact Dan Ortego, Career Services director at (815) 455-8576.
