Trips and Tours

The Trips and Tours Program is a non-membership based program and is open to everyone in and around the community.

Join McHenry County College for great destinations. MCC provides cultural, educational, and recreational opportunities via day tours and extended trips.

Note: There is no senior citizen discount given for trips and tours and no refunds on single day trips.

Chunk of Chocolate 2011

Delve into the delights of man’s most delicious discovery! On this Chicago tour you will learn about the history of cocoa and its connections with the ancient Aztec and Inca civilizations. You will also hear about the varieties of chocolate, the many ways in which it is used and the forms it takes. At lunchtime enjoy a delicious meal at Pompeii and then have a melt-in-your-mouth hot fudge sundae for dessert at a neighborhood ice cream and candy store. Stock up at a chocolate-candy supplier outlet store and a get a delicious chocolate covered treat at Godiva, which has luscious gourmet chocolates. Don’t miss this “choco-riffic” day.

Milwaukee Epicurious

Milwaukee Epicurious 2012

Enjoy history and trivia at the Sprecher Brewery and see how Sprecher is reviving the Old World brewing traditions that once made Milwaukee famous. Sample famous soda and beer in Sprecher’s Beer Garden.

Next stop is Palmero’s Pizza, where you will learn history and fun pizza facts, take a walking tour of the plant, and enjoy samples to top off the experience. Get your “engines roaring” at the Harley Davidson Museum, with a self-guided tour (included). Lunch is on your own at the onsite restaurants. Last stop is the O&H Danish Bakery known for the irresistible Danish pastry - Kringle. Visit the on-site bakery with samples and receive a surprise take home gift. Register early - registration is limited to 30 participants.


Macy's Flower Show

Macy’s Flower Show 2012

Spend the day rewarding your senses at Macy’s Flower Show spectacular. Produced annually at the flagship store on State Street, this fabulous show features over 2 million flowers and exotic topiaries from around the world arranged by renowned horticulturists to create urban sanctuaries. Tour the flower show led by a master gardener from the University of Illinois Extension program and some time on your own to enjoy this historic store. A delicious lunch will follow at Pompeii in Little Italy and then a stop at City Escape Gardens. This center has been instrumental in helping shape the gardens of Chicago and has great ideas for gardening, from containers to larger spaces. You will come away ready for spring and filled with wonderful ideas.

Single Day Trip Details

  • You may reserve several tickets under one name.
  • Day tours depart from MCC’s Lot B circular drive, accessible by entering at College Entrance Number 1, traffic light entrance. Maps and directions available.
