Christopher R. Schauer Memorial Scholarship
The Christopher R. Schauer Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Christopher, a volunteer basketball team manager for 20 years for the McHenry County College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams in 2014. The scholarship provides up to $300 award monies for the spring semester and award monies are used for tuition, books and fees. Applicant must complete and submit the MCC Scholarship Application, be enrolled as a full-time student, maintain a 2.5 GPA, a current member of an MCC Athletics Program team or an incoming freshman or transfer that has committed to playing on an MCC Athletic Program team, provide a written essay describing their passion for playing sports and their future goals. Preference will be given to MCC Women’s Basketball player and a resident of McHenry County. The first recipient of the memorial scholarship was awarded to Ms. Abbey Shaw. Abbey was a member of the MCC Women’s Basketball team from 2014 - 2015. Abbey has been involved in sports her entire life, which she says has “taught her the importance of being part of a team and strengthened ability to work with others to achieve your goals on the court and in life”.
Ms. Carmisha Chavers received the scholarship in the spring of 2016 semester and was also a member of the MCC Women’s Basketball team during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Carmisha is currently studying to receive a degree in Elementary Education and states “I plan to share the love and passion for the game of basketball with young children when I coach them. I hope to be influence people’s lives the same way that Christopher was”.
