To qualify for the MCC Promise, you must be a high school senior graduating from a McHenry County College District 528 high school and living in the district. In addition to these in-district graduation requirements, you must attend MCC full time and work toward a two-year associate’s degree or certificate.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The MCC FAFSA deadline for the MCC Promise is July 15, 2009 for the Fall semester and December 1, 2009 for the Spring semester.
The MCC Promise is not a need-based scholarship; however all students wishing to apply for MCC Promise are required to complete this process, regardless of income.
Should I do it now or after I complete my taxes?
We recommend that you complete your taxes first and then complete the FAFSA application. Filling out the FAFSA before completing your taxes will not put you in a better position to receive the MCC Promise. The MCC Promise is not first-come, first-served.
Complete all MCC financial aid verification paperwork that will be sent to you after the FASFA is received and clear up any discrepancies that arise. The Financial Aid office will send you a proof-of-completion form once you have completed the financial aid process.
Please note: You must provide proof of high school graduation to complete the financial aid process. For audit purposes, the financial aid office needs a copy of
that we can keep. We cannot copy or send this to other departments.
The application deadline is the first day of the Fall or Spring semester.
