McHenry West High School swept first place in two categories and Crystal Lake South captured first place in the one category at the recent McHenry County College 10th annual high school Accounting Bowl. This year's event featured 10 high schools competing - the highest number of participating schools ever - with 140 top high school accounting students vying for trophies.

To help students in the northwest corner of McHenry County save time and transportation costs, McHenry County College (MCC) is offering select classes in Harvard beginning in fall semester. MCC has added credit courses in popular subjects at two locations in Harvard, including Harvard-Diggins Library and the Harvard Community Unit School District Administration Building.

The 23rd annual Friends of McHenry County College Foundation Golf Invitational will be held on June 8 at the McHenry Country Club. Crystal Lake Bank and Trust has pledged their support as the main event sponsor and joins prominent local businesses in supporting the invitational. All proceeds raised will benefit student scholarships, allowing local residents to pursue part-time and full-time programs that further their educational goals.

Fifteen McHenry County College faculty and staff members were recognized for their exemplary support of students with disabilities and named Howard’s Heroes 2012 for their tireless dedication and advocacy for students with special needs.

MCC is partnering with The Light Center (TLC) to offer the two-day course Animal-Assisted Therapy and Learning from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, June 14 and 15 at the Light Center’s adapted barn and facilitated by TLC staff. The barn is located at 17421 Marengo Road in Union.

Explore a new career as a semi-truck driver at CDL-A Summer Information Sessions hosted by McHenry County College and Eagle Training Services from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 5 or Tuesday, July 10 in Room B168 at the College, located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake.

Anyone owing money to the IRS may find out how to reduce their tax debt at an Offer in Compromise (OIC) information session offered by McHenry County College from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12 in Room A207. An Offer in Compromise is a proposal submitted to the IRS requesting relief from a taxpayer’s full tax debt.

McHenry County College Nursing instructor Angela Sass, RN, MS was recently recognized for her superior achievements, being one of five nurses named a 2012 Greater Chicago Nurse.com Nursing Excellence regional finalist in the Education and Mentoring category. She was honored this week at the Greater Chicago Nurse.com Nursing Spectrum Nursing Excellence Gala.

McHenry County College (MCC) will offer a two-day boot camp training for medical coders and other healthcare professionals to learn ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS. The training will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 9 in Room A112 at the College, located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake.

McHenry County College has launched a new high-quality noncredit online course called ReadyMath through a program with ed2go. The College has partnered with ed2go for the past several years to offer hundreds of online, instructor-led courses. Registration is underway now for classes that take up to three months to complete.
