[Tuesday, November 28, 2017]

MCC students Sam Schatz, Dylan Bilodeau and Ron Schatz perform during the 2017 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Jazz Festival on Oct. 28, 2017 at Elgin Community College, where MCC took home three Outstanding Soloist awards and four Honorable Mention awards.

McHenry County College (MCC) will host a Fall Jazz Concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 featuring the MCC Jazz Ensemble and MCC Dixieland group. The performances will take place in the Luecht Conference Center at the college, located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake.

The 10-member MCC Jazz Ensemble, directed by Michael Bazan, will perform a variety of music from jazz greats, including "So What, Say What You Mean," "Black Orpheus," "Basin Street Blues" and two songs written by MCC composition student Ray Carle, including "Summer Buzz" and "Thin Air." The 10-member Dixieland group, called Charlie Three-Valves and the Weird Seven, is directed by Paige Lush, Ph.D., and will perform several toe-tapping tunes, including "Satanic Blues" and "At the Devil's Ball," along with a menu of songs from the New Orleans delta that will lift spirits and create the rhythmic image of Cajun gumbo being served on Basin Street. Dixieland Band members include: Chuck Mehlman, trumpet; Donna Bressler, trombone; Bill Thompson, trombone; Dale Williams, tenor saxophone; Dave DeCamp, tenor saxophone; John Musto, clarinet; Gary Kunath, banjo; Lana Gibbons, piano and vocals; Glenn Kiermas, drums; and director Lush playing tuba.

The concert is free and open to the public. The college is located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake. For more information, contact Michael Hillstrom at (815) 479-7814.
