MCC to Offer Fun Continuing Education Classes

Create new memories with new, fun classes offered by the McHenry County College Continuing Education Department

The following classes are now available:

 

Hand-Built Pottery Workshop with Lindsay Klix: Hand building is a process that uses clay, your hands, plus simple tools. See a demonstration from the instructor on how she creates her unique and fully functional plates, trays, and bowls. This hands-on workshop gives participants the opportunity to make their own plate and bowl. Advanced potters will look at hand building in a new light by using Lindsay’s technique that combines both clay slabs and coils, altering them in your design. Participants will choose their own colors and pick up their finished pieces at a later date. Bring a sack lunch. Class takes place from 10 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 in Room A145. Exploring the Paranormal: Join the Society for Anomalous Studies (SAS), a paranormal research organization for a special presentation: SAS members will talk about the history of paranormal research as well as the techniques and equipment they use to capture paranormal activity. Hear and see evidence SAS has captured from prisons, asylums, historical mansions, and haunted locations in Illinois and Wisconsin. Listen to the case reports, review the evidence, and make up your own mind. Join this one-of-a-kind presentation. Class takes place from 7-8:50 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6 in Room A240. A Pane in the Glass: Leaded Glass Hummingbirds and Flowers: Experiment with the art of stained/leaded glass, expanding your artistic abilities to create a hummingbirds and flowers piece, a dynamic cascade in shades of lavender, green red and blue. Learn the basics of stained glass making while having an opportunity to bend, line, and solder. Bagels, pastries, and coffee provided. All supplies and tools to use during class are included in the course fee. Class takes place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 in the Old Courthouse Art Center, 101 N. Johnson St in Woodstock. Use course code: NCF S64 001 to register. Cost is $129.

Learn the basics of stained glass making while having an opportunity to bend, line, and solder. Bagels, pastries, and coffee provided. All supplies and tools to use during class are included in the course fee. Class takes place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 in the Old Courthouse Art Center, 101 N. Johnson St in Woodstock. Use course code NCF S64 002 to register. Cost is $129.

 

Reclaim Wood: Painting on the Past: Join others at All American Reclaim for a fun-filled evening. Learn about the appeal and history of reclaimed wood then finish with painting your own sign on barn wood to take home. Choose from a variety of shapes, colors and sizes to create your own DIY masterpiece. No experience necessary; the instructor will guide participants through the entire process. All supplies and materials included. Class takes place from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at All American Reclaim, 1095 Pingree Rd., Suite 106 in Crystal Lake. Use course code: NCF S95 001 to register. Cost is $65.
