MCC to Host "Listening for a Cause;" an Evening of Music to Support MCC Students with Emergency Needs

[Tuesday, August 22, 2017]

Listen to some dynamic local musical artists who will perform lively songs from the 60s through top 40s at "Listening for a Cause," a fundraising event to support the new Student Success Fund at McHenry County College. The event takes place from 6:30-10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8 at the Listening Room at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park, 401 Country Club Road in Crystal Lake.

Sponsored by the Friends of McHenry County College Foundation, all proceeds from the event will support MCC's new Student Success Fund (SSF) that provides students with immediate financial support for expenses related to an unexpected emergency, such as an accident, illness, death of a family member, fire damage or need for temporary housing that results in their continued education to be at risk.

The Student Success Fund is a program that is sustained by continual contributions from students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the College.

"The primary purpose of the Student Success Fund is to keep students in class when unforeseen occurrences may impact the student’s ability to stay in college and complete their educational goals," said Chris Gray, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs.

"We see students all the time who are living on the edge of balancing work, school, family and economic pressures," Gray said. "While a flat tire or an unexpected dental bill may not mean much to some families, a small unexpected bill can often mean the student has to make a choice between work and college. This fund helps students for those unexpected emergencies."

Entertainment will be provided by Moonshine, an acoustic ensemble playing a variety of music, including Lady Gaga, Shinedown, Muddy Waters and Joni Mitchell songs; John Shelthoff, an acoustic musician performing lively music from the 60's; and Joe Rossi & Ticking Time Bomb, showcasing their take on classic rock covers and indie rock originals.

Admission is free with donations encouraged and welcomed. A cash bar will be available in this unique venue with an intimate atmosphere. Listening for a Cause is sponsored by Chris's Auto Repair and Specialty Shop and SDL Insurance.
