Summer Arts and Crafts Classes Begin Soon at McHenry County College[Tuesday, June 27, 2017]
McHenry County College is offering fun arts and crafts classes beginning soon. Call your friends and sign up together to create beautiful works, including a painted barbeque platter, pencil portrait, fused glass or a pen-and-ink drawing.
The following classes are available:
Sip and Paint BBQ Platter: Ladies, bring a friend for some wine and a relaxing night out. Participants will get a large platter to design using stencils, stamps, sponges, and much more. The instructor will help you select colors and patterns to create that perfect platter for years of use. All materials included. Class meets from 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 14 at Handmade on Main, 320 S. Main St. in Algonquin. Cost is $45 per person. To register for this class, use course code: NCF S46 003.
Pencil Portraits: Learn to draw portraits using two different styles—drawing freehand, measuring and comparing as you draw, and drawing with a grid as a tool to keep proportions accurate. Participants will first draw the elements of the face separately (eyes, nose, mouth and ears) to study and feel comfortable when drawing the whole face. No experience necessary. Bring a sketchbook, drawing pencils, an eraser, and a kneaded eraser. Photos will be available, or bring a photo or print of someone that you would like to draw. Class takes place from 6:30-8:20 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday beginning July 17 through Aug. 2 in Room A142 at MCC. Cost is $89 per person. To register for this class, use course code: NFA S62 006.
Summer Art in Pen and Ink and Watercolor Wash: Create a pen-and-ink drawing from an original photograph or print, then lay a watercolor wash over the ink drawing for a beautiful effect. Bring vellum paper, a set of Micron ink pens, a watercolor paint set, and brushes. Photos and prints will be available for reference, or bring a print of a photo that you have taken. Class takes place from 10-11:20 a.m. on Thursday, July 20 through Aug. 24 at MCC. Cost is $89 per person. To register for this class, use course code: NFA S35 008.
Fused Glass Workshop I: Learn the basics of kiln-fired glass, which is also called fused glass. Characteristics of fused glass materials, assembling techniques, and firing guidelines will be covered in class. Supply costs are not included in the course fee, but supplies will be available on site. Supply costs will range from $12 to $55. Participants can choose from at least seven jewelry/ornament projects and will complete a minimum of three projects. No glass crafting experience is necessary, and tools will be provided. Class takes place from 7-10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26 and Aug. 2 at Material Things Artisan Market, 103 W. Van Buren St. in Woodstock. Cost is $32. To register, use course code NCF S34 027.
