MCC to Host Arts Festival, Car Show to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

[Friday, May 26, 2017]

As part of McHenry County College’s year-long 50th anniversary celebration, the college will host an MCC Scots Fest, a free, fun-filled family event to thank the public for its support throughout the last half-century. The festival is slated for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 10 on MCC’s Crystal Lake campus.

The festival will feature an arts show, live entertainment, children’s activities and a car show. Arts lovers can enjoy demonstrations in ceramics, jewelry, printmaking, floral arranging, and poetry readings. Bring the kids to the STEAM Zone where kids can enjoy hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. A Kids Corner with interactive play for children and families will also be included.

Another highlight—especially geared for car enthusiasts—is a community auto show in parking lots B and C.

Live entertainment will be performed by Charlie Three Valves and the Weird Seven, storyteller Jim May, Potts & Pans Steelband, and Crystal Lake Strikers. The rolling radio from Star Radio 105.5 will also be featured.

Food and beverages will be for sale from several food trucks, including Crescent City Cajun, Dukes, Kona Ice, Mario's Cart, MJ's Coffee Bar, Riverside Chocolate Factory, Rosati's, and AJz Kettlecorn Co.

“All of us at McHenry County College are thrilled to be celebrating 50 years of delivering quality education to the county,” said Christina Haggerty, interim vice president of Institutional Advancement. “We are committed to developing successful citizens who contribute to the future success of the community. It’s never too late to start—or continue—learning. MCC is here when you’re ready.”

Community members are invited to stop by the college to view the historic timeline in the corridor between Buildings B and C, which will be on display throughout the year.

In addition, MCC will participate in the Crystal Lake Fourth of July Parade on July 2 and a Friends of MCC Foundation Gala is planned for Nov. 10. Plus, other events will include a Fall Opening Day celebration, multi-chamber mixer, MCC Night and the Winter Commencement.

The college is located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake. For more information, visit www.mchenry.edu/50.
