MCC to Host Information Sessions for Physical Therapist Assistant Program[Tuesday, February 7, 2017]
Anyone interested in training for a career as a physical therapist assistant may attend an information session from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 in Room E204.
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program information session will provide attendees an opportunity to meet PTA program faculty, learn more about career opportunities, and receive details on applying to the program. Informal discussions and application forms will also be available.
The job market for Physical Therapy Assistants is expected to grow 40 percent nationally, much faster than the average, through the year 2024. Mean PTA salaries in 2015 were $52,840 in metropolitan Chicago. Nationally, the mean salary for PTAs was $54,330, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. U.S. News and World Report/Money lists PTA at number 40 in the top 100 jobs and Number 4 in the Best Health Care Support Jobs for 2016.
MCC’s Physical Therapist Assistant Associate in Applied Science degree prepares students to work with people of all ages in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, private practices, rehabilitation centers, outpatient facilities, school systems, home health and/or skilled nursing facilities, under the direction of a physical therapist. PTAs are trained to conduct physical therapy interventions (treatment) including, but not limited to, therapeutic exercise, balance and gait training, and assess a patient’s progress. PTAs may participate in activities related to billing and coding, quality improvement, risk management, and other administrative activities.
