McHenry County College literacy arts magazine, Voices 2016, received a first place recognition from the American Scholastic Press Association’s Annual Contest/Review for scholastic yearbooks, magazines and newspapers. Voices features short fiction, poetry, visual art, video and music submitted by MCC students.

MCC is among seven Illinois school winners out of 143 scholastic magazines from throughout the U.S. who were recognized for first place.

“We are very proud of the 2016 edition of Voices,” stated Matt Irie, MCC art instructor and Voices faculty advisor. “It’s an honor to see our students get the recognition they deserve for their incredible work.”

Next year’s publication, Voices 2017, is expected to be completed in spring.

The Voices staff consists of instructors Matt Irie, Amy Ortiz, Laura Power, Paige Lush, and Justin Schmitz. Voices can be viewed at www.mchenry.edu/voices.
