Woodstock Harley-Davidson and Friends of MCC Foundation Partner to Offer New Book Scholarship for Veterans

[Wednesday, February 19, 2014]

Woodstock Harley-Davidson owners and general managers, Doug Jackson and Tracy Lancaster, worked with the Friends of MCC Foundation to create a new Woodstock Harley-Davidson Veterans Book Scholarship. The Friends of MCC Foundation has announced the availability of a new scholarship especially for veterans who attend McHenry County College. The Woodstock Harley-Davidson Veterans Book Scholarship is the result of a generous donation by Woodstock Harley-Davidson, specifically for a veteran of the U.S. Military, former or active member of the Reserves, Coast Guard or National Guard.

The scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded to one student who meets the criteria for both the fall and spring semesters.

Woodstock Harley-Davidson has always supported veterans in the McHenry County community, both through employment and offering support and other resources through various charitable efforts. To owner and general manager, Doug Jackson, supporting veterans is near and dear to his heart, and this effort is just one way for the business to give back to the community. "My own children have served, so this is the least I (we) can do to give back to those in our own community."

Marketing director, Ashley Lambert, added, "If we can give back in a small way so that our veterans have the tools that they need, it is the least we can do. It's really a no-brainer for us."

The availability of the Woodstock Harley-Davidson Veterans Book Scholarship enhances the various efforts that MCC has in place to support its veteran students, including the recent addition of a dedicated Student Veterans Resource Center in late 2013. "Everyone at MCC is truly grateful for the generous support of our veteran students by Woodstock Harley-Davidson," said Christina Haggerty, MCC chief communications officer. "Through the Foundation’s scholarships via donations like Harley-Davidson's, veterans will have the help and tools that they need to meet their educational goals."

Co-owner and general manager, Tracy Lancaster, is also excited about this new partnership through the Friends of MCC Foundation. "Woodstock Harley-Davidson wants to make education more attainable for our veterans. So, anything we can do for them, we try to do. We just want to make it better for those who have protected us and are now coming home."

The monies awarded from this scholarship may only be used for books (purchased in the MCC Bookstore) for the semester awarded. For details about this scholarship and others, visit www.mchenry.edu/scholarships or contact the Friends of MCC directly at (815) 455-8721.
