ICD-10 CM and PCS Boot Camps for Medical Coders, Healthcare Professionals

[Tuesday, February 11, 2014]

McHenry County College is offering an ICD-10 CM and PCS two-day and three-day Boot Camp training programs for students looking to update their medical coding skills beginning Saturday, Feb. 15.

The two-day classes will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16. Those registering for the three-day course will also meet on Saturday, Feb. 22.  This class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room A112 at MCC, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake.

ICD-10 is an upgraded healthcare diagnostic and procedural coding system and has been mandated by the federal government for use in the healthcare industry beginning October 1, 2014. This two-day boot camp explains the structure, format and content of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS. These new classification systems will replace the current ICD-9-CM and ICD-9-PCS classification systems. Chapter by chapter explanation of codes, expansions, revisions and guidelines will be reviewed and students will complete exercises to reinforce the concepts. Anatomy, disease processes and illustrations will be emphasized in relation to coding accuracy.

The required textbook, and ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS code manuals are included in the cost of this course. Students will access and use digital copies of ICD-10 files. Students are allowed to bring in and use their own laptops and/or print versions of ICD-10.

Those attending the three-day boot camp will have an additional day dedicated to learning the structure, format and conventions of ICD-10-PCS.  Illustrations and exercises will be used to reinforce these concepts.

Current coding professionals, early adopters, consultants, trainers and anyone else involved in the healthcare industry are welcome to familiarize themselves with the basic structure of the ICD-10 code sets in preparation for the transition and mandated utilization.

The fee for the two-day boot camp is $599 and the fee for the three-day boot camp is $799.
